Council and School Concreting Sydney
Council infrastructure and school concreting work are not standard residential or commercial jobs. They come with compliance obligations, public site management requirements and operational constraints that most concreters are not set up to handle properly.

What Makes Council and School Concreting Different
A residential driveway and a council footpath are both concrete. But the compliance framework, the approval process, the site management requirements and the consequences of non-conformance are entirely different.
On a council job, the work is inspected against local government specifications that vary between councils. Kerb laybacks, vehicular crossings and public footpaths each have their own dimensional and material requirements. A pour that does not meet those specifications gets rejected – and rectification on a public site is far more disruptive and expensive than getting it right the first time.
On a school site, the challenge is not specification – it is people. Children are on site during term time and school hours represent the majority of the working day. Concreting on an active school campus requires real planning: scheduling around peak pedestrian hours, establishing and maintaining safe barriers throughout the pour, managing concrete truck movements in environments with restricted sight lines and ensuring dust, noise and debris are controlled throughout. These are not things a concreter figures out on the day.
KMA has managed both environments – repeatedly, across Sydney, since 1999. We do not treat a council or school job like a residential pour with different paperwork.
Council Concreting Work KMA Delivers
Council Footpaths and Public Pathways
Public footpaths must be built to the specification of the relevant Sydney metropolitan council. Dimensions, cross-fall, surface texture, joint spacing and material quality all have defined requirements. KMA builds council footpaths to these specifications and delivers work that passes inspection on the first assessment – because failed council inspections delay projects and generate additional costs that no one needs.
Council Crossovers and Kerb Laybacks
Council-approved vehicular crossovers and kerb laybacks are required any time a property access crosses the public footpath and kerb. Each Sydney council has its own approval process and construction requirements. KMA manages the crossover and layback application process across all Sydney metropolitan councils – we know the requirements for your specific council, we prepare the documentation and we build the crossing to specification so that the council inspection is a formality, not an obstacle.
Kerb and Gutter Work
Kerb and gutter construction and replacement for council and public infrastructure projects. KMA has experience working on active road corridors and public areas, coordinating with council and traffic management requirements to minimise disruption to surrounding properties and road users.
Streetscape and Public Infrastructure
Concrete paving, public plaza surfaces, accessible pathway construction and streetscape concreting for council-funded public space projects. KMA understands the public realm specifications that apply to these environments and delivers to the quality standard that public assets require.
School and Educational Facility Concreting
School concreting is its own discipline. The WHS obligations on a live school site are more complex than on a standard commercial project, the scheduling constraints are tight and the consequences of a safety incident involving a student are not comparable to a standard site event.
KMA has been working on school sites across Sydney since 1999. Our approach to school concreting is methodical:
Before the job: We conduct a pre-site visit to assess access constraints, identify pedestrian routes that need to be protected and agree the work schedule with the school’s facilities manager. We confirm the pour schedule around the school calendar and operational hours before any work is booked.
During the work: Barriers are established and maintained throughout the pour. Concrete truck movements are managed to avoid conflict with student areas. Our crew understands they are on a school site and operates accordingly – no shortcuts on barriers, no noise during assemblies, clean site management throughout.
After the pour: We clean up completely and restore the site to safe operational condition before we leave. No hazards, no debris, no half-finished barriers left overnight.
KMA holds full public liability and workers compensation cover on every school job. All crew working on school sites hold current WHS site safety training.
