Get the Thickness and Specification Right From the Start

The most common mistake with shed slabs is under-specifying the thickness for the intended use. A slab poured too thin for the load it carries will crack. A slab without correct drainage fall will pool water. A slab on a poorly compacted sub-base will move.

KMA assesses the intended use, soil conditions and drainage requirements before quoting on every shed slab in Sydney. Here is what the correct specification looks like by shed type:

Garden and Storage Sheds

A concrete slab for a garden shed typically requires 75mm to 100mm thickness on a compacted sub-base with sand blinding. This provides a clean, level, all-weather floor that prevents moisture rising and keeps the structure stable.

Garages and Carports

A garage concrete slab must carry the weight of one or more vehicles. KMA pours garage and carport slabs to a minimum of 100mm with steel mesh reinforcement and drainage fall across the full slab surface to prevent water pooling at the door.

Workshops and Large Sheds

A workshop housing heavy machinery, tools or industrial equipment requires a heavier specification. Depending on the load, this may mean 125mm to 150mm thickness with additional steel reinforcement or thickened edge beams. KMA specifies the right mix for the job before a single truck arrives.

Machinery and Agricultural Sheds

Large machinery sheds used for tractors, forklifts or heavy equipment require an engineer-specified slab in most cases. KMA works with your engineer’s drawings to pour exactly what the specification requires.

What Drives the Cost of a Shed Slab in Sydney

Shed slab cost in Sydney is not a single number – it varies based on factors specific to your project. Rather than giving a vague price range, here is what actually moves the cost up or down:

Size – The larger the footprint, the more concrete, reinforcement and labour. A small garden shed slab costs significantly less than a double garage or large workshop floor.

Thickness – Moving from 75mm to 100mm increases material cost. Moving to 125mm or 150mm for heavy use applications increases it further.

Soil and site conditions – A flat site on stable ground requires less excavation and preparation than a sloping block or reactive soil site. Western Sydney properties with clay soils typically require more sub-base preparation work.

Access – If a concrete truck cannot get close to the pour area, concrete pumping is required. This adds cost but ensures accurate placement.

Reinforcement – A garden shed slab with basic steel mesh costs less than a workshop slab with heavier bar reinforcement and thickened edges.

KMA provides clear, itemised quotes based on your shed size, intended use and site conditions. The price we quote is the price you pay. Call 02 9054 3040 to discuss your project.

Shed Slabs Across All of Sydney

Across western Sydney, larger residential blocks mean a high demand for garden shed, workshop and machinery shed slabs – particularly across Penrith, Blacktown, Campbelltown and the new estates of Marsden Park, Riverstone and Box Hill. In the northern suburbs and inner west, the demand is typically for garage slabs and carport conversions on tighter sites where access is a consideration. KMA works across every region of metropolitan Sydney and adjusts our approach to the specific site conditions and access constraints of each job.

Shed Slabs Are One Part of What KMA Does

KMA Concrete Constructions has been pouring shed slabs, carport slabs and garage floors as part of a broader residential and commercial concreting operation across Sydney since 1999. Fully licensed under NSW Fair Trading Lic No: 219967c, WHS certified on every site and operating with no subcontractors – the same crew that quotes your job is the crew that pours it.

If you need a shed slab as part of a larger scope of works – including a house slab, driveway or concrete pathway on the same property – we handle the full scope under the same contract, same crew, same standard.
