Why the licence and insurance details matter before you engage any concreter

NSW Fair Trading Licence 219967c confirms KMA has met the competency, financial and character requirements to perform residential and commercial concreting in NSW. It is publicly verifiable before you engage us. An unlicensed concreter cannot legally perform this work and carries no regulatory accountability if something goes wrong on site.

Public liability insurance means a current policy responds to any property or third-party damage arising from KMA’s work. Without it, that liability falls back on you as the principal or property owner.

WHS certification means KMA operates under a documented safety management system. Safe work method statements are prepared before every job starts. Site inductions are run before any crew member begins work. On commercial and council sites this is a contractual requirement — not optional. Councils and principal contractors routinely disqualify uncertified contractors at tender.

Licensed concreter vs unlicensed concreter

A licensed concreter is legally authorised to perform the work, publicly verifiable on the NSW Fair Trading register, accountable under the Fair Trading Act and required to hold current public liability insurance. An unlicensed concreter carries none of these obligations. If the work fails or damage occurs, there is no regulatory pathway for rectification and no insurer standing behind the claim.

KMA holds NSW Fair Trading Licence 219967c. Every service we deliver — from concrete resurfacing and repair to full house slabs — is carried out under that licence.

Own crew vs subcontracted crew

With an own-crew operator, workers compensation coverage is unambiguous, quality is controlled directly and there is one accountable party on site from start to finish.

With subcontracted work, liability can be disputed across multiple entities when something goes wrong. Finish quality varies depending on which sub turns up. The price you are quoted often carries a margin stacked on top of another margin.

KMA has operated with its own crew since 1999. The people who quote your job are the people who pour it — whether it is a residential driveway, a commercial slab or a council or school project.

WHS certified contractor vs uncertified contractor

A WHS certified contractor prepares safe work method statements before every job, runs a documented site induction process, follows a formal incident reporting procedure and meets the eligibility requirements for commercial and council work at tender stage. An uncertified contractor has no obligation to do any of this.

KMA’s management policy and full WHS documentation are available for review before you engage us. Read more about how we work on our About page.
